Joanne Shofner, a Republican member of the Texas State House representing District 11 since 2025, used her social media platform to comment on recent legislative gridlock and its effects on key state issues.

On August 11, 2025, Shofner posted about the ongoing lack of quorum in the Texas House. She wrote, “No quorum……866.786.5972 Here is the DPS hotline if you have any tips where Texas House Dems might be. It’s been 8 days with no flood relief, no property tax relief and eliminating the STAAR test (my granddaughter’s favorite). Put a fork in us, we are done!!!” This tweet referenced an eight-day period without progress on flood or property tax relief legislation as well as proposed changes to the STAAR standardized test.

The following day, August 12, Shofner reiterated her concerns about legislative delays. She stated, “Same story, different day. No Quorum. The DPS bill is in the six figures now. Taxpayers are NOT paying for Democrat’s vacation. It comes out of their own pocket!” In this message she addressed taxpayer costs related to law enforcement efforts during the stalemate and emphasized that these expenses would not be borne by taxpayers.

Later that same day, Shofner tweeted a brief message directed at Governor Greg Abbott: “Whoo hoo!! @GregAbbott_TX”

Shofner began serving in the Texas State House after winning election in 2025 for District 11 and succeeded Travis Clardy.
