The Stephen F. Austin beach volleyball team competed against No. 17 North Florida and Florida Gulf Coast University on April 10 in the opening day of the Capri Classic, hosted by Florida Atlantic in Boca Raton, Florida.

The matches marked a challenging start for Stephen F. Austin, as they were defeated by both opponents without securing a set win. These results are significant as they reflect the team’s performance against nationally ranked programs early in the tournament.

In their first match, Stephen F. Austin fell to No. 17 North Florida with a score of 5-0. The pairings from North Florida won all five courts in straight sets, with scores such as Cameron Humphries and Mackenzie Murphy defeating Annabella Howerton and Ryann Allison (21-11, 21-18), and Presley Murray with Sophia Notaro besting Kylan McCoy and Reese Rich (21-11, 21-9).

Later that day, Stephen F. Austin faced off against Florida Gulf Coast University but again lost all five courts without taking a set. FGCU’s Ava Lilliquist and Alexis Keeter overcame Brynn Dowd and Ryann Allison (21-11, 21-9), while Erin Miller with Nicole De Oliveira beat Kylan McCoy and Annabella Howerton (21-8, 21-18). The order of finish was consistent across both matches.

Looking ahead, the Sandyjacks will conclude their weekend schedule on Saturday with matches against Jacksonville at 7:00 a.m., followed by host No. 15 Florida Atlantic at 11:00 a.m.
