The Stephen F. Austin softball team began its three-game series against the Northwestern State Lady Demons on April 2, with both teams’ top pitchers starting the game.
This matchup was marked by strong pitching performances, as neither team scored during the first three innings. Northwestern State took advantage of defensive errors to put two runners on base, followed by a two-run double from Britt Bourgoyne that gave them a 2-0 lead. Stephen F. Austin was unable to generate offense against Mattison Buster, who kept them scoreless for the remainder of the game.
Ellie Vance led Stephen F. Austin with multiple hits, while four other players each contributed one hit. Crimson Bryant pitched a complete game for the Lumberjacks and recorded four strikeouts.
The series will continue on Friday, April 3, with a doubleheader scheduled at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. The first game will be broadcast on ESPN+, but there will be no broadcast for the second game.
