The Stephen F. Austin softball team concluded its three-game series against Northwestern State with a doubleheader on April 3.
The outcome of the series was significant for both teams as they aimed to strengthen their positions in the conference standings and build momentum heading into upcoming games.
In the first game, Stephen F. Austin secured an 8-5 victory after a scoreless start through three and a half innings. Ellie Vance, Adelyn Becerra, and Malia Jones led off the fourth inning with hits that brought in SFA’s first runs. Morgan Wright contributed a single to extend the lead, while Alexis Grigsby added another run with her hit to right field. The Lady Demons responded in the fifth inning but could not overcome SFA’s advantage as Kai Hudson closed out the game in relief of Amelia Hatthorn.
The second game saw Northwestern State take control late, breaking open a scoreless contest with two runs in the fifth inning and four more insurance runs in the seventh to win 6-0. Despite strong pitching from both sides early on, SFA was unable to bring any runners home.
Postgame notes highlighted individual performances: Wright went two-for-two with three RBIs in game one; Vance and Jones each had two hits; and Jones, Grigsby, Kara Pride, and Lilly Bean all recorded RBIs.
Looking ahead, Stephen F. Austin will face Sam Houston on April 7 at 5:00 p.m., aiming for a season sweep after winning their previous matchup earlier this year.
