The Stephen F. Austin softball team won both games of a doubleheader against Houston Christian University in Houston on March 27.
The victories give the Lumberjacks a strong start to their weekend series and highlight key performances from several players.
In the first game, Stephen F. Austin scored early with singles from Kaylee Paul and Ellie Vance, followed by an RBI single from Malia Jones that brought in two runs. The Huskies narrowed the gap with a solo home run in the second inning, but SFA extended their lead with another RBI single by Jones and an insurance run in the fifth inning after back-to-back singles and a groundout by Kara Pride, ending the game at 4-1.
Game two saw SFA continue their momentum as Adelyn Becerra delivered a two-RBI single in the first inning. Additional runs came through consistent hitting, including an RBI groundout by Becerra and a triple from Paul that drove in two more runs. Vance added another RBI single to close out scoring at 6-0. Pitchers Crimson Bryant and Amelia Hatthorn each threw complete games, allowing five hits with seven strikeouts and three hits with four strikeouts respectively.
Ellie Vance led SFA offensively across both games, going six for seven at bat with one RBI and two runs scored. Kaylee Paul also contributed significantly, batting five for seven with four runs, two RBIs, and one triple.
