Stephen F. Austin to host Carl Kight Invitational track and field event

Stephen F. Austin State University announced on Apr. 1 that it will host the Carl Kight Invitational, a two-day outdoor track and field event at Homer Bryce Stadium in Nacogdoches, Texas. The competition will feature student-athletes from 25 teams, with events scheduled for Thursday and Friday.

The invitational begins Thursday morning with the Heptathlon at 9:15 a.m., followed by the Decathlon at 10 a.m. Field events start at 1 p.m., and the distance carnival is set for a 6 p.m. start. On Friday, multis resume with the Decathlon at 8:30 a.m., Heptathlon an hour later, remaining field events at 11:30 a.m., and running events starting at noon.

A highlight of Friday’s schedule is the recognition of 20 senior student-athletes from both men’s and women’s teams during a ceremony planned for 4 p.m. Honorees include Semion Brodski, Ayden Colbert, Kevin Curry, Riley Elliott, Robert Fuelle, Blake Hyatt, Zach McPhee, Bennett Meyer-Wills, Samuel Pavan, Victor Ramos, Nicolaus Ray and Bryson Williams among men; Timiejha Furlow, Jada Gibson, Reis Johnson, Faith Nze, Corlasia Scott, Kennedy Swann, Amirah Wooden and Garance Dubray among women.

Recent performances by SFA athletes include Basia Mitchell’s sixth-place long jump finish of 5.98 meters—one of the top marks in program history—and multiple point-scoring finishes by both men’s and women’s teams at previous meets such as the Clyde Hart Classic. Notable results include Paul Kiprotich winning the men’s 1500m event; Hunter Murphy taking first place in high jump with a mark of 2.13 meters; Victor Ramos achieving one of SFA’s best-ever hammer throws; Kason Reed recording another top result in hammer throw; and Bryson Williams winning triple jump with his mark ranked second-longest in South Central Region.

The meet welcomes competitors from several Southland Conference schools as well as other universities across Texas and neighboring states.
