Stephen F. Austin University announced on Apr. 7 that its baseball team will travel to San Marcos for a non-conference game against Texas State on Wednesday, with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m.

The game comes as Stephen F. Austin (18-15, 9-6 Southland Conference) holds fourth place in the conference standings, trailing Lamar and Southeastern Louisiana by one game. The Lumberjacks are set to host UTRGV for a three-game series following their matchup with Texas State.

Wednesday’s contest marks the 68th meeting between Stephen F. Austin and Texas State since their series began in 1985. Texas State leads the all-time record with 46 wins and has a strong home advantage at Bobcat Ballpark, holding a 26-7 record there against SFA. The teams last played in 2018 when the Bobcats swept SFA at home.

Texas State (21-10) enters the game ranked among national leaders in several offensive categories, including seventh nationally in home runs and twelfth in slugging percentage. The Bobcats average nearly eight runs per game and have four players with eight or more home runs this season.

For Stephen F. Austin, Julian Swift leads the team offensively with a .343 batting average, topping the Southland Conference in hits, doubles, RBI, and triples while also being noted as one of the toughest players to strike out league-wide. On the mound, Jack James leads SFA’s pitching staff with a 1.08 earned run average over twenty-five innings pitched.

Recent highlights for SFA include Josh Ibe being named Southland Conference Hitter of the Week after batting .438 across four games and Dylan Mulcahy recording nine strikeouts—matching an SFA best since early last season—in a recent win over Houston Christian University.
