The Stephen F. Austin track and field teams concluded a successful showing at the Carl Kight Invitational on April 3, despite a brief lightning delay that paused Friday’s events in Nacogdoches, Texas.
The meet featured strong performances from both the men’s and women’s squads in front of their home crowd at Homer Bryce Stadium. Ayden Colbert began the day by winning the 110-meter hurdles segment of the decathlon with a time of 15.44 seconds and finishing second in the javelin throw. In the women’s heptathlon, Alana Rouquette secured second place overall after running 2:24.40 in the 800 meters.
Brianna Bejar placed sixth in the women’s triple jump, while D’mitri Patton finished fourth for the men. The high jump saw Abbigail Hirth finish fifth for SFA women and Rance Berney take fifth among men. The men’s shot put was led by Kason Reed with a personal-best mark of 17.79 meters, followed closely by teammates Aiden Reed, Julian Tijerina, Jackson Grantham, and James Williams—all placing within the top six.
On the track, Darryl George Jr.’s personal-best time of 48.70 seconds earned him seventh place in the men’s 400 meters. Timiejha Furlow led four Lumberjacks into top-eight finishes in the women’s 100 meters with an effort of 11.69 seconds; Perry Watkin’s result of 10.44 seconds ranked among Division I’s top sixty this season for men.
Evaline Chepkoech won both Thursday’s women’s 1500 meters—setting a new program record—and Friday’s women’s 800 meters with one of Division I’s fastest times this year (2:07.35). Lauren Creaby followed her to secure a one-two finish for SFA in that event.
Other highlights included Keyshawn Garcia winning the men’s 800 meters with a time ranking inside Division I’s top fifty this spring; Jarvis Anderson claimed victory in Friday’s men’s 400-meter hurdles (51.56), also earning national recognition for his performance.
The Lumberjacks swept both men’s and women’s relay titles before concluding their home meet schedule until later this season.
Looking ahead, Stephen F. Austin will compete next weekend at Texas A&M’s annual invite and multi-event competition.
