The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks women’s tennis team defeated the New Orleans Privateers in a 7-0 sweep on March 15 during their second home match of the season.
This win marks the team’s first sweep of the season and their first straight-set victory in 2026. The result also improves Stephen F. Austin’s home record to 2-0 for the year.
In doubles play, Felicia Back and Sonja Rooth secured a win against Kate Kalistratova and Nouray Khaled with a score of 6-3, while Alkmini Giannakogiorgou and Ksenia Mamontova won their match 6-2. In singles, Rooth earned her seventh singles win of the season, bringing her overall record to 7-1. Both Rooth and Antonella Taco have now won three consecutive singles matches, while Back achieved her first singles victory at the No. 2 position. Mamontova remains undefeated against Southland Conference opponents in singles matches this season.
The doubles pairing of Back and Rooth improved their record together to above .500 at 3-2, while Giannakogiorgou and Mamontova are now undefeated as a pair at 2-0. With this result, Stephen F. Austin leads the all-time series against New Orleans seven wins to five and has recorded its third-ever 7-0 sweep over the Privateers, including back-to-back seasons.
Following this victory, Stephen F. Austin moves up two spots to third place in Southland Conference standings with a conference record of 3-1 and an overall record of 3-6 for the season. The team will next face Sam Houston in Huntsville on Thursday, March 19.
