The Stephen F. Austin women’s tennis team defeated Lamar University 6-1 on April 6, marking a strong performance during their Senior Day event in Nacogdoches, Texas.
This victory is significant as it represents the team’s sixth all-time win over Lamar and keeps them undefeated at home for the season with four home wins. The match featured both doubles and singles competitions, with SFA securing key victories across most matches.
In doubles play, Avery Kinsey and Ana Paula Chavez won their match against Martina Alcaino and Lera Zaginayko (6-2), while Alkmini Giannakogiorgou and Ksenia Mamontova also secured a win (6-2). In singles action, Sonja Rooth achieved her tenth singles win of the season by defeating Arina Gudovskaya (6-1, 6-2), while Felicia Back improved to .500 in singles play after winning against Luana Paiva (6-3, 7-6 [4]). Antonella Taco, Ana Paula Chavez, and Alkmini Giannakogiorgou also contributed with victories in their respective matches.
SFA honored three seniors—Ksenia Mamontova, Felicia Back, and Alkmini Giannakogiorgou—before the match for their dedication to the program. The team now stands at a record of 7-8 overall and 5-3 in Southland Conference play. Following this result, SFA will prepare for its regular-season finale against UIW scheduled for Wednesday, April 8 at home.
