AMARILLO – The Amarillo City Council passed the final version of a mandate that would add the San Jacinto Neighborhood to the city’s general plan.
The mandate would include $654,000 to be added to the San Jacinto Neighborhood. The funds would be used to make improvements to the neighborhood's infrastructure, such as repaving sidewalks, fixing traffic lights and street lighting, and putting up new signs.
Emily Koller, planning and developing services manager for the city, says the program is designed to be a partnership with the neighborhood and county. She added that the mandate is a commitment to the area.
“The neighborhood planning program is designed to be a partnership between the city and the county and the neighborhood, and so I think it’s important because it signifies that commitment on behalf of the city to these areas that have the feel like they have been neglected for a long time,” Koller said.
