The Jasper County Commissioners Court approved signing a contract with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to increase lookouts of the boat ramps at Lake Sam Rayburn.

According to KJAS.com, in the contract was voted on during the commissioners court's monthly meeting on May 18. It also includes extra patrols at the camping and picnic areas during summer months.

County Judge Mark Allen says the Army Corps of Engineers would fund the expenses for additional workers and vehicle maintenance.

Also during the May 18 meeting, Allen approved a proposal presented by Jasper County Clerk Debbie Newman on the upcoming election. Newman said there were no locally contested races. Her proposal would allow early voting and the actual voting on Election Day to be coupled together into polling at Lake Rayburn, Jasper, Kirbyville, Buna, and Evadale.

Additionally, the County Commissioners Court approved a proposal allowing Newman to assist with the school and city elections.
