City of Hudson issued the following announcement.
The much-anticipated project on June Drive that everyone has been reading about in the Lufkin Daily News and discussed in multiple council meetings is now a reality. On December 9th a contract was awarded to Angelina Excavating for $285,865.84 to begin the project which includes approximately 1,736 LF of HMAC roadway improvements and drainage. The project includes four added alternates which include:
Alternate1: An additional 2'' of crushed limestone stabilization
Alternate 2: An additional 1/2'' of HMAC surface
Alternate 3: An additional stabilization of the cul-de-sac
Alternate 4: Replace all driveway culverts with for Corrugated Polyethylene pipe and asphalt turnouts.
The City acquired a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) of $205,300.00 dedicated for the base bid of $228,254.40 for the improvements and the City will fund the additional amount of $80,565.84 for the difference and the Alternatives.
The contractors have began cutting out the driveways and should start more construction after the Holidays. The project has a 120-day completion time so the date of completion should be around April 20, 2021.
The City can only hope that the benefit of a new street and improved drainage will outweigh any inconveniences that this project may cause.
