There were 38 Hispanic students enrolled in Newton ISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, 2.6% less than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Data showed that Newton ISD schools welcomed 968 students during the 2022-23 school year. Among them, Hispanic students comprised 3.9% of the student body to be one of the least represented ethnicities in the district.

Newton ISD roughly covers schools within Newton County and has a main office in Newton.

Among the three schools in Newton ISD schools, Newton Middle School recorded the highest enrollment of Hispanic students in the 2022-23 school year, with a total of 14 students.

The Texas education system is currently torn between public schools and taxpayer-funded private schools.

Critics argue that private schools use funds that should go to the public school system, while private school advocates claim they’re offering better education for more Texas students.
