Enrollment Analysis: African American students comprised 12.9% of Shelbyville ISD schools' student body in 2022-23 school year

There were 107 African American students enrolled in Shelbyville ISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, 10.1% less than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Data showed that Shelbyville ISD schools welcomed 831 students during the 2022-23 school year. Among them, African American students comprised 12.9% of the student body to be one of the most represented ethnicities in the district.

Shelbyville ISD roughly covers schools within Shelby County and has a main office in Shelbyville.

Shelbyville School was the only school in the district which enrolled African American students, welcoming 107 students in the 2022-23 school year.

The Texas education system is currently torn between public schools and taxpayer-funded private schools.

Critics argue that private schools use funds that should go to the public school system, while private school advocates claim they’re offering better education for more Texas students.
