White students comprised the most prevalent ethnic group in Angelina County schools in the 2023-24 school year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Of the 15,862 students attending Angelina County schools, 43.3% were white. Hispanic students were the second largest ethnicity, making up 35.8% of the total enrollment.

In the previous school year, white students also made up the largest ethnic group in Angelina County, comprising 44.5% of the student body.

Anderson Elementary School had the most even distribution of races among the schools in the county, which included 35.5% Hispanic students, 32.1% Black students, 21.4% white students, 6.1% multiracial students, 3.8% Asian students, 0.8% American Indian students, and 0.4% Pacific Islander students.

When compared to the previous school year, total public school enrollment in the county dropped 0.7%.

“As a result, many districts in our very own Central Texas region are being forced to cut back on essential programs, services, consider school closures, and adopt deficit budgets just to provide students with the education that they deserve,” Hutto ISD Trustee James Matlock said.
