Cost of college went up for all students at Stephen F Austin State University

In-state tuition and fees rose 7.8 percent for 2018-19 at Stephen F Austin State University, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Texas residents paid $8,316 to attend the four-year public institution this year – $600 more than the $7,716 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 119.8 percent more than residents this year, or $18,276. Their price tag grew 3.4 percent from $17,676 in 2017-18.

About 99 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Texas residents. And about 1 percent are residents of other states.

Data shows 85 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 1,569 students received grants or scholarships totaling $13.9 million and 1,352 students took out student loans totaling more than $8.6 million.

Including all undergraduates (13,144), 7,309 students used grants or scholarships totaling $52.4 million, and 6,250 students took out $42.6 million in federal student loans.
