The University of Texas at Tyler (UTT) announced on Tuesday that the UT System has given Dr. Susan McBride, the associate dean of research at the university’s School of Nursing, a $225,000 Science and Technology Acquisition and Retention (STAR) Award, per a press release that was run by Tyler ABC affiliate KLTV.
The release said that the STAR Award provides locally matched seed funding to be used for recruiting, equipment and facility upgrades, as well as equipment and software for the development of a data mining lab in UTT’s Center for Clinical Innovation, Data Science and Nursing Research.
“Along with her enthusiasm, positive energy and attentiveness to faculty and student needs, Dr. McBride provides vision and a supportive influence for expanding research efforts in the School of Nursing and across UT Tyler,” Dr. Barbara Haas, dean of the School of Nursing, said, per the university. “I can think of no one more deserving of this award.”
McBride considers it an honor to receive the STAR Award.
“[I’m] excited about the opportunities it will provide for the School of Nursing and the greater East Texas community,” she said in the release. “I hope that this grant will further advance our research and analytical capabilities, ultimately leading to better health outcomes for our region.”
According to the release, McBride became a faculty member of the School of Nursing last September and holds a master’s degree and a doctorate from Texas Woman’s University (TWU) in Denton.
Prior to coming to UTT, she taught at Texas Tech University (TTU) in Lubbock for nearly 14 years, her LinkedIn profile shows.
“Dr. McBride’s professional objective is to contribute to education, research and development of measuring cost and quality of healthcare services with a focus on healthcare informatics and improving health and clinical outcomes of populations,” the profile states.
