There were 7,360 students enrolled in Lufkin ISD schools in the 2021-22 school year, 1% less than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2021-22 school year, 51.5% of them were boys, and 48.5% were girls.

The most represented ethnicity among Lufkin ISD students was Hispanic, accounting for 43% of the student population.

Lufkin ISD roughly covers schools within Angelina County with its main office in Lufkin.

Among the 17 schools in Lufkin ISD, Lufkin High School recorded the highest enrollment of 2,163 students in the 2021-22 school year.

Education in Texas is often a hot button issue, especially as test scores lag behind other states.

"The problems commonly cited are flaws in the school financing system, relatively low teacher salary, poor test performance by students... dropouts from traditional schools in favor of charter schools... gun violence, and mental health issues," claimed the Texas Almanac.
