There were 682 students enrolled in Joaquin ISD schools in the 2021-22 school year, 1.6% more than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2021-22 school year, 51.3% of them were girls, and 48.7% were boys.

Data also shows that the majority of students were white, representing 79.6% of the Joaquin ISD total enrollment.

Joaquin ISD roughly covers schools within Shelby County with its main office in Joaquin.

Among the three schools in Joaquin ISD, Joaquin Elementary School recorded the highest enrollment of 317 students in the 2021-22 school year.

Education in Texas is often a hot button issue, especially as test scores lag behind other states.

"The problems commonly cited are flaws in the school financing system, relatively low teacher salary, poor test performance by students... dropouts from traditional schools in favor of charter schools... gun violence, and mental health issues," claimed the Texas Almanac.
