There were 323 students enrolled in Zavalla ISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, 7.3% more than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 54.2% of them were boys, and 45.8% were girls.

Data also shows that the majority of students were white, representing 94.4% of the Zavalla ISD total enrollment.

Zavalla ISD roughly covers schools within Angelina County with its main office in Zavalla.

Among the two schools in Zavalla ISD, Zavalla Elementary School recorded the highest enrollment of 163 students in the 2022-23 school year.

Education in Texas is often a hot button issue, especially as test scores lag behind other states.

"The problems commonly cited are flaws in the school financing system, relatively low teacher salary, poor test performance by students... dropouts from traditional schools in favor of charter schools... gun violence, and mental health issues," claimed the Texas Almanac.
