There were 10 Pacific Islander students enrolled in Lufkin ISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, 66.7% more than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Data showed that Lufkin ISD schools welcomed 7,164 students during the 2022-23 school year. Among them, Pacific Islander students comprised 0.1% of the student body to be one of the least represented ethnicities in the district.

Lufkin ISD roughly covers schools within Angelina County and has a main office in Lufkin.

Among the 15 schools in Lufkin ISD schools, Lufkin Middle School recorded the highest enrollment of Pacific Islander students in the 2022-23 school year, with a total of four students.

The Texas education system is currently torn between public schools and taxpayer-funded private schools.

Critics argue that private schools use funds that should go to the public school system, while private school advocates claim they’re offering better education for more Texas students.
