There were three American Indian students enrolled in Cushing ISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, the same number as the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Data showed that Cushing ISD schools welcomed 547 students during the 2022-23 school year. Among them, American Indian students comprised 0.5% of the student body to be one of the least represented ethnicities in the district.

Cushing ISD roughly covers schools within Nacogdoches County and has a main office in Cushing.

Among the two schools in Cushing ISD schools, Cushing School recorded the highest enrollment of American Indian students in the 2022-23 school year, with a total of two students.

The Texas education system is currently torn between public schools and taxpayer-funded private schools.

Critics argue that private schools use funds that should go to the public school system, while private school advocates claim they’re offering better education for more Texas students.
