Garrison ISD schools Education: 92 Hispanic students were enrolled in schools in 2022-23 school year

There were 92 Hispanic students enrolled in Garrison ISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, 3.4% more than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Data showed that Garrison ISD schools welcomed 760 students during the 2022-23 school year. Among them, Hispanic students comprised 12.1% of the student body to be one of the most represented ethnicities in the district.

Garrison ISD roughly covers schools within Nacogdoches County and has a main office in Garrison.

Among the four schools in Garrison ISD schools, Garrison Elementary School recorded the highest enrollment of Hispanic students in the 2022-23 school year, with a total of 38 students.

Education in Texas is often a hot button issue, especially as test scores lag behind other states.

"The problems commonly cited are flaws in the school financing system, relatively low teacher salary, poor test performance by students... dropouts from traditional schools in favor of charter schools... gun violence, and mental health issues," claimed the Texas Almanac.
