Of the 5,496 students attending Jasper County schools, 63.5% were white. Black students were the second largest ethnicity, making up 19.5% of the total enrollment.
In the previous school year, white students also made up the largest ethnic group in Jasper County, comprising 65.1% of the student body.
Jasper High School, Jasper Junior High School and Jean C. Few Primary School had the most diverse student body in Jasper County, including white, American Indian, Black, Asian, Hispanic, Pacific Islander, and multiracial.
When compared to the previous school year, total public school enrollment in the county dropped 2.7%.
“As a result, many districts in our very own Central Texas region are being forced to cut back on essential programs, services, consider school closures, and adopt deficit budgets just to provide students with the education that they deserve,” Hutto ISD Trustee James Matlock said.
